The Carp is a native of Asia, but extensive introductions in lakes and rivers have helped to make the international conference call the worlds most widely distributed freshwater fish. Bighead and silver carps are spreading rapidly but are found mainly in the Mississippi River drainage basin. Black carp have been collected in the Mississippi River but are not thought to have established reproducing populations at this time. But emerging reports of wild, fertile black carp being caught in the lower Mississippi River basin may suggest otherwise. Carp are a very prolific fish and spread quickly.
Where to Find Carp
Carp are extremely adaptable animals and can thrive in environments that would kill other freshwater fish. They can be found in almost any body of water or river.
